Why Preah Vihear Is One of Our Favorite Temples
When people ask us where to go besides Angkor Wat, we always say: Go see Preah Vihear. It’s one of the most stunning temples in Cambodia, and most first-time visitors don’t even know it exists.
It sits right on the edge of a cliff in northern Cambodia, near the Thai border, and the views are something else. Seriously, you’re standing on a mountaintop, looking out over forests and faraway hills. And then there’s this ancient stone temple, quiet and beautiful, just sitting there with all that history.

It’s Not Easy to Get To - And That’s What Makes It Special
Getting there takes a bit more effort - it’s in Preah Vihear Province, about 5–6 hours from Siem Reap — but that’s what makes it special. It’s not crowded, it’s peaceful, and you can take your time exploring without bumping into a tour group every few steps.
A Temple That Feels Older Than Time
The temple itself is older than Angkor Wat and has this raw, powerful vibe. Locals will tell you it’s been there for over a thousand years, and when you walk through the ruins, it feels like it. Time slows down up there.

Planning Your Visit
If you’re planning your first trip to Cambodia, and you’ve got a few days to spare, we really recommend adding Preah Vihear to your list. Whether you’re into temples, nature, or just want to see something different, it’s absolutely worth it.
