If you’re planning a trip to Cambodia, don’t skip Koh Rong. It’s one of the country’s most loved islands, both by locals and travelers. The beaches are white, the water is clear, and the vibe is just what you need when you want to slow down.
Getting there is easy, but it helps to know a few things before you go.
First, make your way to Sihanoukville. You can take a bus or book a private car, depending on your budget and time. Once you’re in town, grab a Tuk Tuk to the port. That usually runs about $10.
At the port, there are plenty of ferries heading to Koh Rong. On weekends, boats leave nearly every hour from morning until late afternoon. A round-trip ticket is around $25. Just remember to tell the boat staff which village you’re staying in because the ferry stops at a few.
And seriously - don’t lose your ticket. You’ll need it to get back. Wi-Fi on the island can be hit or miss, so download anything you might want to watch or read ahead of time.
Koh Rong is still pretty untouched. It’s beautiful in that raw, natural way. You’ll find bungalows on the beach, fresh seafood, and long stretches of quiet sand. A place to unwind without much noise.
If you go, we hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Help keep it clean, support the local businesses, and maybe come back with a story to tell.
